This once in a one-hundred-year project involved the complete restoration of the Grade II* listed Tudor building for Liberty. The brief required the store to remain fully operational throughout, avoid any business and trade disruption to customers and concessions and to document and celebrate the journey of the building’s restoration. The project received significant media attention and featured heavily in the Channel 4 documentary ‘Christmas at Liberty’.
The works involved a full restoration of the Tudor Arts and Crafts style department store, including repairs to the extensive visual timber, originally constructed from two early 19th Century “men of war” sailing ships, HMS Hindustan and HMS Impregnable. The store remained completely operational throughout the entirety of the project, which required extensive logistics, operational and stakeholder management.
